When moving from WooCommerce to Shopify is worth it.

WooCommerce is an extension for WordPress. You look after hosting, updates and plugins yourself or with a service provider. Shopify is hosted: servers, updates and checkout come from Shopify, and Klaviyo connects directly to the store.

Still, a migration is not an end in itself. If your store runs smoothly and your team knows WordPress well, the switch alone won't bring extra revenue. In the audit, we tell you honestly whether the effort is worth it for you.

What comes along when you move to Shopify, and what you should know.

We take on the whole migration or individual parts. What you need, we work out in the inventory.

Products and categories

Data

We transfer products, variants, images and categories and check prices, weights and stock levels after the import.

  • Prepare product data from the WooCommerce export for Shopify
  • Reorganise categories as collections
  • Additional details in metafields, editable in the admin

Customers and accounts

Data

Customer data moves across, but according to Shopify passwords don't, because they are encrypted outside Shopify. Your customers therefore get an invitation to set a new password. How we carry over consent is covered in our article on Klaviyo and GDPR.

  • Import and check customer data
  • Invitation to set a new password, wording agreed with you
  • Carry over newsletter consent properly
  • Bring over historical orders if needed

Old URLs and Google

SEO

Many URLs change, because Shopify uses its own paths for products and collections. So that visitors and Google don't land on error pages, we set up redirects before the domain moves.

  • List of all important old URLs
  • Redirects by import, according to Shopify up to 100,000 per store
  • Redirects only apply where an error page would otherwise appear
  • Checks after the migration

Theme and content

Design

Instead of a template that only half fits, we develop a custom Shopify theme for your brand if you want one. Your team then manages products and copy itself in the admin. Our project with ZinCuTec shows what that looks like.

  • Custom theme in Liquid
  • Several languages with hreflang
  • Content in the HTML so that Google can read it

Reviews

Data

According to Shopify, reviews can't be exported directly from WooCommerce, but they can be imported with an app from the Shopify App Store. We work out which app suits your store before the migration.

Klaviyo and email marketing

Email

After the migration, forms, sign-ups and purchase data flow straight into Klaviyo. Because the store and the email marketing both come from us, they fit together. More on the page about our Klaviyo support.

  • Shopify integration in Klaviyo
  • Forms and double opt-in in the new theme
  • Flows with purchase data from Shopify

What we don't promise

Nobody can guarantee that rankings stay the same after a migration. We make sure old URLs redirect and that Google can read the new store in full.

What you contribute

Access to WooCommerce and the domain, product photos and copy, and your approvals. We plan and build the rest.

Common questions about moving from WooCommerce to Shopify.

It depends mainly on the number of products and languages and on whether you want a custom theme. A small store with a template moves faster than a multilingual store with its own design. After the audit, you receive a timeline that fits your store and the scope we agree on together.

Nobody can guarantee that. A major risk is old URLs that lead to error pages after the migration. That is why we set up redirects for all important pages before the domain moves, and make sure that Google can read the content of the new store in full.

No. According to Shopify, passwords can't be transferred from another store because they are encrypted outside Shopify. Customer data still moves across. After the import, your customers receive an invitation to set a new password. We agree the wording of that invitation with you.

According to Shopify, reviews can't be exported directly from WooCommerce, but they can be imported with an app from the Shopify App Store. You can bring historical orders across if you want to see them in the new store. We work out what makes sense for you in the inventory.

Yes. We build the new store in Shopify while your WooCommerce store keeps selling as usual. The domain only moves once everything has been checked. That way there is no long break in which customers face a closed store. We agree the timing of the switch together with you.

For many stores, a good template is enough. A custom theme is worth it if your brand differs strongly from the standard, you need several languages or your team should manage content without a developer. That is exactly why we built a custom theme in five languages for ZinCuTec.

Yes, that is our core. We connect Klaviyo to the new store, build forms and flows and take care of deliverability. Because the store and the email marketing come from one team, purchase data and sign-ups come together without detours. At ZinCuTec, 14 flows are running today.
